“Important things are in the middle.”
The key focus of the design was to create a function forward building that would allow for the best display possible of the ceramics collection.
The building uses a combination of light delivery methods to create an even ambient light condition. Light coats the perimeter of the space in ambient diffuse light. The Curator can then illuminate the objects with directional lighting as he/she sees fit.
The objects are in the center, surrounded by light and circulation. Light shelves and a light chase deliver natural light to the perimeter of both the upper and ground levels.
This project is located at 7th and Mill Avenue. The street presence was of utmost importance and was designed to draw visitors into the corner entrance.
